Abstract

Alzheimerova bolest progresivna je neurodegenerativna bolest te najčešći uzrok demencije. Samo neki od teškoća koje sobe s Alzheimerovom bolesti imaju su poteškoće s pamćenjem, snalaženjem u prostoru i vremenu, komunikacijom, psihomotornom uznemirenosti te depresivnim i anksioznim simptomima, apatijom, agresijom i agitacijom. Zbog prisustva navedenih teškoća u području kognitivnog, psihičkog, emocionalnog i socijalnog funkcioniranja, oboljelim osobama potrebno je pružiti podršku i oblik intervencije koji bi pridonio smanjenju simptoma bolesti i posljedično većoj kvaliteti života.
U liječenju Alzheimerove bolesti postoje razne farmakološke i nefarmakološke metode koje pokazuju pozitivno djelovanje na funkcioniranje oboljelih osoba. Jedna od sve češće korištenih nefarmakoloških intervencija je muzikoterapija, disciplina koja koristi muziku za postizanje nemuzičkih ciljeva s brojnim populacijama pa tako i osobama oboljelim od Alzheimerove bolesti. Muzikoterapiju provode educirani muzikoterapeuti koji u svome radu koriste različite muzikoterapijske metode i pristupe ovisno o potrebama klijenta. Istraživanja pokazuju da muzikoterapija pozitivno pridonosi različitim područjima funkcioniranja osobe te da je vrijedna metoda u postupku liječenja Alzheimerove bolesti.
Cilj ovog preglednog rada je pružiti pregled dosadašnjih spoznaja o dobrobitima muzikoterapije na kognitivno, psihičko, emocionalno i socijalno funkcioniranje osoba s Alzheimerovom bolesti. Uključena istraživanja pružaju osvrt na pozitivno djelovanje muzikoterapije na funkcije poput pamćenja, psihomotorne brzine, pažnje i samosvijesti te simptome kao što su depresija, anksioznost, deluzije, agitacija i mnoge druge. Znanstveni radovi i istraživanja ukazuju na to da je muzikoterapija prikladna metoda u interdisciplinarnom procesu liječenje Alzheimerove bolesti

Abstract (english)

Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease and the most common type of dementia. Some of the difficulties people with Alzheimer's disease face are memory loss, spatial and temporal disorientation communication problems, psychomotor disturbance, depressive and anxiety symptoms, apathy, aggression, and agitation. Due to problems with cognitive, psychological, emotional and social functioning, people with Alzheimer's disease require support and access to interventions that would help decrease their symptoms of the disease and increase their quality of life.
There are many different types of pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods used in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. One of the commonly used non-pharmacological interventions is music therapy, a field that uses music to achieve nonmusical goals with numerous populations including people with Alzheimer's disease. Music therapy is administered by a specially trained music therapist who chooses different music therapy methods and approaches depending on the client's needs. Research indicates music therapy has a positive effect on different domains of a person's functioning and is a useful method in the treatment of those with Alzheimer's disease.
This paper aims to review the existing literature and research and show the benefits of using music therapy in the treatment of cognitive, psychological, emotional and social problems in people with Alzheimer's disease. Included research gives an insight into the positive effects of music therapy on functions like memory, psychomotor speed, attention and self-awearness and symptoms like depression, anxiety, agitation, delusions and many other. Reviewed literature and research point to music therapy as an appropriate method in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
