Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Self-help groups in stuttering therapy with adults are extremely important during the post-therapy period. They help in maintaining techniques for fluent speech acquired during the therapy and their benefits can have a positive influence on the entire life of a stuttering person. Self-help groups should be avaliable for any stuttering person, they should provide a safe environment in which people who stutter can speak with no bariers, share their thoughts, feelings, experiences and fears, as well as get to know their problem better. The person who leads a self-help group should be a person who stutter and/or speech and language pathologist. On the basis of the overview of available literature this thesis describes a possible structures and work of a self-help groups for person who stutter. Futhermore, it provides guidelines for starting such a group, emphasises the necessity of collaboration between speech and language pathologists amd self-help groups, and describes a way of a more effective work and practice of one's own speech within a self-help group. Also, it displays the work of Croatian association for people who stutter Hinko Freund's self-help group during the academic year of 2015/2016. Since self-help groups are still widely unexplored and unknown in treating speech fluency disorders, this thesis could be useful for clinicians in a way that it's activities, exercises, principles and working methods can be used in working with other self-help groups.
