Abstract

Razne tehnološke naprave su već odavno sastavni dio dijagnostike i rehabilitacije mnogih
poremećaja. U području istraživanja i unapređivanja procesa dijagnostike i terapije
poremećaja iz spektra autizma (PSA), u posljednjih deset godina pozornost znanstvenika
obuzima područje socijalno-asistivne robotike. Ciljevi istraživanja u području ljudskorobotskih
interakcija su se do sada uglavnom odnosili na mjerenje i analizu reakcija djece s
PSA-om na robota. Daljnji ciljevi uključuju detaljnu analizu određenih ponašanja za koja se
smatra da su važna u procesu dijagnostike ili terapije osoba s PSA-om. Smatra se da osobe s
PSA-om pokazuju značajne teškoće u vještinama imitacije. Imitacija je kao sredstvo
komunikacije povezana s pozitivnim socijalnim ponašanjima i stoga je dobar prediktor
socijalnih vještina. Roboti su se pokazali kao uspješni pokretači poželjnih socijalnih
ponašanja kod djece s PSA-om kao na primjer združene pažnje ili zajedničkog uživanja u
nekoj aktivnosti. Iako dosadašnje studije donose važne podatke, rezultati su još nejasni.
Ograničenost dosadašnjih rezultata u kombinaciji s opažanjima da djeca pokazuju interes za
robota (u smislu usmjerenosti pogleda ili dodira) pokazuje da još uvijek postoji potreba za
usporedbama interakcija robot-dijete s PSA-om i osoba-dijete s PSA-om. Cilj je ovog
istraživanja bio izraditi protokol za kodiranje imitacije te temeljem istog ispitati djecu s
PSA-om. Ovim istraživanjem htjelo se istražiti razlike u interakcijama djece s PSA-om s
obzirom na različite demonstratore zadatka (robot-osoba) te detaljno opisati pojavu ponašanja
imitacije. Analiza rezultata pokazala je da ispitanici više imitirali osobu nego humanoidnog
robota. Samo su se neka socijalna ponašanja više javljala kada su djeca s PSA-om bila u
interakciji s humanoidnim robotom. Ponašanje usmjerenost pogleda statistički se značajno
više javljalo kada je demonstrator zadatka bio robot. Uz to ponašanja interpasivnost i
usmjerenost na predmet imitacije koja upućuju na to da dijete nije usmjereno na
demonstratora niti na neki način sudjeluje u interakciji s demonstratorom, su se statistički
značajno više javljala kada je demonstrator bila osoba. Kvalitativnom analizom je također
utvrđeno da su se ponašanja koja ukazuju na usmjerenost pažnje više javljala u odnosu na
humanoidnog robota nego osobu. Rezultati ovog istraživanja su u suglasnosti s dosadašnjim
istraživanjima imitacije djece s PSA-om u odnosu na robota. Još jednom se pokazalo da se
djeca s PSA-om rado uključuju u interakciju s robotom te da roboti mogu djelovati kao
medijatori interakcije dijete s PSA-om - osoba.

Abstract (english)

Various technological devices have long been an essential part of diagnostics and
rehabilitation of many disorders. In the field of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) research and
enhancement of diagnostics process and therapy of individuals with ASD, scientists have
become rather interested in potential of socially-assistive robotics. So far, in the field of
human-robot interaction, research goals were mainly directed to measurement and analysis of
children’s reactions in relation to the robot partner. Future goals include detailed analysis of
certain behaviours which are considered important in the process of diagnosis and therapy of
individuals with ASD. Individuals with ASD have considerable imitation deficit. Imitation is
correlated with positive social behaviours and is considered predictive to social skills. Robots
have so far been successful in eliciting desirable social behaviours in children with ASD, such
as joined attention or sharing of the enjoyment. Current research has made some important
findings, but results are still inconclusive. Combination of limited generalization of current
results and observations of children’s interest in robots (shown by behaviours such as gaze
direction and touch) is indicative of need for further research. The purpose of the current
study was to construct a protocol for coding imitation and to use it with children with ASD.
Goal was to examine the differences in interactions of children with ASD in relation to the
demonstrator of the task (robot-human) and to give a detailed description of the imitation
skills. Results show that children with ASD imitate more when paired with human
demonstrator. Occurrence of some observed social behaviours has been higher for robot
demonstrator. Gaze direction had a statistically higher occurrence when children were paired
with robot. Behaviours such as interpassivity and focus on the object of imitation, which
suggest that the child is not in any way directed to the demonstrator had a statistically higher
occurrence for the human demonstrator. Qualitative analysis suggests that children with ASD
generally directed more attention to the robot demonstrator. Results of this study are in the
agreement with the previous studies of imitation in the children with ASD in relation to robot
partner. Once again it has been shown that the children with ASD enjoy interacting with
robots and that robots can be successful in mediating interactions for children with ASD.
