Abstract

Broj napuštene djece i djece bez roditelja koja žive u institucijama posljednjih je godina u porastu. Institucionalna skrb djeci ne može pružiti tipičnu obiteljsku okolinu koja je potrebna za optimalan rast i razvoj. Ipak, upravo taj oblik alternativne skrbi predstavlja najčešći oblik skrbi za prethodno navedenu populaciju djece. Posljednjih nekoliko desetljeća proveden je niz istraživanja zbog kojih je široko prepoznat štetan utjecaj institucionalizacije na opći razvoj i dobrobit djece. Cilj ovog preglednog rada bio je dobiti cjeloviti prikaz relevantnih istraživanja i dosadašnjih spoznaja vezanih uz obilježja jezika djece u sustavu institucionalne skrbi, počevši od 40-tih godina prošloga stoljeća pa sve do danas. Istraživanja se, osim na obilježja jezika djece u sustavu institucionalne skrbi, odnose i na djecu nižeg socioekonomskog statusa budući da ta djeca čine najveći postotak populacije koja koristi usluge socijalne skrbi. Isto tako, pregled obuhvaća i kratak opis nekoliko uspješno provedenih ranih obrazovnih intervencija osmišljenih posebno za ovu populaciju djece. Pretpostavka da će istraživanja pokazati određena odstupanja u obilježjima jezika djece kao posljedica odrastanja u razvojno deprivirajućem okruženju institucionalne skrbi i siromaštva pokazala se točnom. Prikupljene informacije pripomogle su u donošenju zaključaka o utjecaju odrastanja u kontekstu institucionalne skrbi, kao i niskog socioekonomskog statusa na jezični razvoj djece.

Abstract (english)

The number of abandoned children and orphans living in institutions has been increasing in recent years. Institutional care cannot provide the typical family environment needed for optimal growth and development of children. However, this type of alternative care is the most common type of care for the previously mentioned population of children. In the past few decades, a number of studies have been conducted that have widely recognized the detrimental impact of institutionalization on the general development and well-being of children. The aim of this paper was to obtain a comprehensive review of relevant research and current knowledge related to language abilities of children living in institutional care, starting from the 1940s until today. Apart from the language abilities of children in institutional care, the research refers to children of lower socio-economic status, since these children make up the largest percentage of the population that uses social care services. The review also includes a brief description of several successfully implemented early educational interventions designed specifically for this population of children. The assumption that the reviewed research will show certain delay in children's language abilities as a result of growing up in a developmentally depriving environment of institutional care and poverty proved to be correct. The information gathered by this review contributed to drawing conclusions about the impact of growing up in the context of institutional care, as well as the impact of low socio-economic status on children's language development.
