Abstract

Parallel abstract (English)
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties in social interaction and communication, stereotyped behaviors and narrow interests. Different interventions have been used to reduce problem behaviors that are present in ASD. One intervention which is evidence-based is the social stories intervention. Social stories are designed according to a predetermined structure for each individual (Gray, 2010). They are primarily intended for people with ASD. The stories follow a structure that contains a certain ratio of descriptive, perspective, affirmative, directive, control and cooperative sentences. They are intended to explain different situations, behaviors and reactions from the environment to the individual with ASD, in ways that are linguistically and cognitively adapted to his level. The research part of this thesis was to measure the effectiveness of a social stories intervention in reducing problem behaviors in a boy with ASD. The research was conducted on a project „Harmonisation of parenthood and business life through multidisciplinary social services“ (MULTI-TUNE) which lasted for two months. The observation of „problematic“ situations that lead to problem behaviors in boy has been conducted in first month, and according to them two social stories have been made which had a purpose to explain these two situations. The methods and conditions of implementation differed for both stories. Problem behaviors were measured by the evaluation scale through a period of four weeks. Analysis of the data concluded that both stories have proved effective because the problem behaviors in boy were completely reduced and disappeared.
